Rail track maintenance workers on London Underground inspect and repair LU tracks, bridges, tunnels, gates, signals, stations and viaducts.
They also look out for obstacles, defects or anything that could interfere with the smooth running of the train service. In bad weather they may have to clear snow from the tracks or fallen trees that are blocking the line. All accidents and incidents will be reported and corrected as soon as possible.
They use hand tools, pneumatic drills and welding equipment and for major repairs and laying new track, heavy machinery may be required.
Requirements
Candidates must also possess a valid Sentinel Card and have completed the London Underground Induction. This card serves as a crucial certification that ensures all personnel are familiar with the specific safety protocols and operational standards required within the London Underground environment. Furthermore, it is imperative that candidates are trained in the use of small tools and demonstrate a high level of competence in operating these tools effectively and safely. This training is essential not only for the performance of daily tasks but also for maintaining a safe working environment for themselves and their colleagues.
