About the Role
As an Operative, you’ll be part of a small, dedicated team helping to maintain the rail network each day. You’ll work in all conditions, at any time of day or night, with safety, efficiency, and teamwork at the forefront especially when working near moving trains.
Working Hours:
5 days with varying shift patterns as agreed with the manager
Requirements
Candidates applying for this position must possess a valid Sentinel Card, which is essential for ensuring safety and compliance within the rail industry. In addition to this critical requirement, applicants should meet several other qualifications and competencies to be considered for the role:
PTS competencies: Candidates are required to demonstrate proficiency in Personal Track Safety (PTS) competencies, which include understanding safety procedures, risk assessments, and emergency protocols specific to working on or near railway tracks. This knowledge is crucial for maintaining safety standards and ensuring that all operations are conducted without incident.
Good knowledge of rail: A solid understanding of rail systems, infrastructure, and operations is necessary. This includes familiarity with train signaling, track layouts, and the general workings of rail transport. Candidates should be able to navigate various rail environments and understand the implications of their work on overall rail safety and efficiency.
CSCS card (desirable): While not mandatory, having a Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card is highly desirable. This certification indicates that the holder has received training in health and safety practices and is knowledgeable about safe working procedures on construction sites, which can be beneficial in rail-related construction and maintenance roles.
Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle: A valid driver's license is essential for this position, as candidates must have the ability to travel to various work sites efficiently. Access to a reliable vehicle is also necessary to ensure punctuality and the ability to respond to job assignments as required, especially in locations that may not be easily accessible by public transportation.
